Flowers of Remembrance
The solo exhibition project by Olena Grishyna
with the support of MacPaw Foundation
📍MacPaw Space, Velyka Vasylkivska 100, Kyiv
2026
The exhibition is centered around the series “Flowers of Remembrance” - a cycle of works created since 2023 as an artistic reflection on the experience of forced migration and life during wartime.
The “Flowers of Remembrance” series consists of ten works and serves as a visual diary of emotions and personal experiences. At the core of the project are themes of loss, choice, faith, inner strength, and the will to live.
The works are executed in a restrained color palette - shades of red, grey, and black, deeply rooted in Ukrainian tradition and enhancing the emotional resonance of the series.
In addition to the main cycle, the exhibition includes works from 2023–2025 that expand and complement the project’s visual language. Together, they form a cohesive dialogue about personal experience that echoes the realities lived by many Ukrainians over an extended period of war.
In her artistic practice, the artist works with the traditional technique of Petrykivka painting, combining it with her own symbolic language and a contemporary visual approach. Through color, form, and imagery, she explores themes of memory, loss, and inner resilience.
The project captures a contemporary reinterpretation of Ukrainian decorative art, demonstrating its ability to remain alive, relevant, and open to new meanings.
The project has a charitable purpose.
All funds raised through donations and the auction held as part of the exhibition, as well as 50% of the proceeds from the sale of paintings and prints, were directed toward the purchase of the “Maul” ground robotic system for the First Separate Medical Battalion.
